Veteran's Park Rededication May 28, 2012

ELMWOOD, WI - May 28, 2012. There was a very nice gathering in Elmwood for the re-dedication of the Veterans Park site. A newly redesigned layout was completed this past spring with the names of all the past and present veterans from the local area engraved into the stones of the sidewalks. A flag that was flown over the US Capital on January 8, 2012 was brought to the ceremony to replace the older US Flag that has flown at the site for many years. Elmwood American Legion Post 207 was created on January 8, 1946. A ceremony that lasted just under an hour was arranged for the many citizens to come and view went well, as the weather was warm and sunny. Post 207 Commander Marty Renier spoke to the crowd that gathered for the event. There are 466 names already engraved in stone, and many more already are being ordered to add to the sidewalks. The names that are currently in place are gathered from the Civil War, WWI, Korean War, WWII, Vietnam, Gulf War, and up to the current Afghanistan and Iraq Operations.
