Indianapolis Motor Speedway
SPEEDWAY, INDIANA - The Nationwide Series came to the famous track for the first time on Saturday. The race would be a 100 laps on the two and a half mile track. This would be the third “Dash for Cash” race, with Elliott Sadler, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Justin Allgaier and Michael Annett racing for the $100,000.00 bonus paycheck. The Pole Winner was # 38 Kasey Kahne, with # 54 Kyle Busch starting second in his own race car.
The start of the race was very sloppy, with Busch jumping the start, and NASCAR not calling him on it. It was very clear that he took off well before the leader did. NASCAR waited too long to review it. Later in the race, they penalized a car for the same infraction, when the car was pushed past the leader on a restart. The penalty for passing the leader before the start/finish line is a black flag, resulting in the car going to the rear of the field.
On lap 16, Nascar threw a competition caution. This was due to rain washing the track clean over night and earlier in the day. On the restart, Busch again was very aggressive and forced cars out of his way. On lap 39, a second caution came out for # 7 Danica Patrick and # 98 Reed Sorenson. The two got together in the corner and Patrick’s car took heavy damage, as she hit the wall hard. Sorenson’s car then slammed into her car as well, ending her race. Sorenson did however continue racing. They were racing for fourteenth position at the time of the incident. A third caution came out on lap 63 for debris. Caution number four was on lap 74, when # 11 Brian Scott lost control of his car and tagged # 51 Ty Dillon. On the restart, Busch again went three wide immediately, clipping # 3 Austin Dillon’s front end, then Busch bounced off # 12 Sam Hornish Jr. before losing control of his car and spinning out. Busch fell one lap down and never recovered.
On the restart, # 2 Elliott Sadler was pushed by teammate # 3 Austin Dillon past the leader # 22 Brad Keselowski. Nascar would throw the “Black Flag” against Sadler. Sadler went from the lead to twenty-fourth. At the end, # 22 Brad Keselowski would win his first race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This would be Keselowski’s 20th victory in the series. This was car owner Roger Penske’s first stock car victory at the track, and Penske’s 100th Nascar Victory.
The rest of the top ten were: # 12 Sam Hornish Jr. (Keselowski’s teammate), # 51 Ty Dillon, # 18 Denny Hamlin, # 3 Austin Dillon, # 43 Michael Annett (winner of the $100,000.00 bonus), # 20 Joey Lagono, # 33 Paul Menard, # 6 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and # 4 Jeremy Clements.
The final “Dash for Cash” race is next weekend at Iowa. Drivers # 3 Dillon, # 6 Stenhouse Jr., # 12 Hornish Jr. and # 43 Annett will race for the money.
BRICKYARD 400
SPEEDWAY, INDIANA - The Sprint Cup Series would run their 19th race at the famous speedway. Chevy has won the last nine races at the track. The race was 160 laps around the two and a half mile oval. In the race, # 78 Regan Smith ran a special paint scheme to honor all those people that were affected by the shooting in Aurora, Colorado. It was noted prior to the race, that Roush and Penske both, have not won a stock car race at IMS, in the Cup Series. Earlier in the week, AJ Allmendinger was indefinitely suspended due to a drug test having a positive finding of amphetamines. This was test number two, a “B” testing that was requested as an appeal to the first results. The pre-race ceremonies were completed with two V-22 Ospreys flying overhead, and the lead singer for “Mavericks” Raul Malo singing the national anthem.
The race ran green for the first 40 laps before a caution flew for # 93 Travis Kvapil having a tire go down, before he struck the outside wall. Another tire down brought out the second caution on lap 47 for # 15 Clint Bowyer. The third caution came out when # 13 Casey Mears hit the wall hard. Another caution came out on lap 124 when # 31 Jeff Burton also had tire issues on track. The final caution flew when # 20 Joey Lagono got loose and spun. As he was spinning, he clipped # 47 Bobby Labonte, then he shot across the track and into points leader # 17 Matt Kenseth. This ended Kenseth’s day, as his car started on fire right away after the hit.
On the restart, # 48 Jimmie Johnson would then cruise to his fourth victory at the track, after leading 100 of 160 laps. # 18 Kyle Busch would finish six seconds behind the leader. The rest of the top ten were: # 16 Greg Biffle, # 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. (now the new points leader), # 24 Jeff Gordon, # 11 Denny Hamlin, # 39 Ryan Newman, # 56 Martin Truex Jr., # 2 Brad Keselowski and # 14 Tony Stewart.
Hendrick has won eight of the nineteen races held for the Brickyard 400.
The next race is on Sunday at Pocono Speedway. The race is scheduled to start at noon.

JOLIET, ILLINOIS - The Nationwide Series ran this weekends race in Chicagoland. The STP 300 was 200 laps on the mile and a half race track. James Buescher won the Truck race the night prior on the track. On a day when Penn State would remove Joe Paterno’s statue from outside the Beaver Stadium, # 6 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. would take the Pole for the race being held later in the day. This is a track that Jack Roush’s teams have never won a race at, but Stenhouse Jr. was giving them a good chance. # 3 Austin Dillon would start second. The “Dash for Cash” was back again for this race, giving the best finisher among Elliott Sadler, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Austin Dillon and Sam Hornish Jr. a $100,000.0 extra bonus. Dillon won the first round of four that are included in the Dash. # 54 Kyle Busch was the only Cup driver involved in this race, in his own car. The group “Million Dollar Quartet” sang the National Anthem, while a fly over was done by the local T-38’s called the Lucky Devils. The flags were hung at half mass, for the shooting victims in Colorado.
While many drivers were starting their first round of green flag stops, # 23 Jamie Dick stalled his car leaving pit road. This brought out the first caution on lap 53. # 54 Kyle Busch began his day with a penalty for speeding while exiting pit road. # 33 Brendan Gaughn did not have much better luck, as he hit the pit road commitment cone, which he received a penalty also. A second caution came out as pit stops were happening again on lap 112. On lap 130, a third caution came out for # 38 Brad Sweet losing control and spinning out. Again on lap 166, Sweet spun out a second time, bringing out the fourth caution. The final caution came out on lap 192 when # 12 Sam Hornish Jr. ran into the back end of # 54 Kyle Busch, turning him sideways into # 33 Brendan Gaughn. They crashed hard into the outside wall, ending Busch’s race. He would finish in 26th place, after being close to the top ten all day. Busch would go to his trailer without speaking to media, as he does regularly when he doesn’t win a race.
The race would conclude under the Green-White-Checker Rules. # 6 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. dominated the race, but fell short of victory while # 2 Elliott Sadler took off at the restart, and didn’t have to worry about being caught before getting to the checkered flag. Sadler would also take the $100,000.00 extra in bonus money. Stenhouse Jr. finished second. The rest of the top ten were: # 31 Justin Allgaier, # 09 Kenny Wallace, # 43 Michael Annett, # 3 Austin Dillon, # 22 Parker Klingerman, # 12 Sam Hornish Jr., # 88 Cole Whitt and # 18 Ryan Truex. # 7 Danica Patrick ran well, and finished 14th.
The next round for the “Dash for Cash” will be next Saturday, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 3 PM. This will be Nationwide’s first time at the famed race track. Sadler, Stenhouse Jr., Allgaier and Kenny Wallace will be racing for the extra bonus money.

SCHOOL NEWS
The first day of school will be on September 4, 2012 in Elmwood. The School Board also is considering a Community Service Fund (80) this year. This would establish and maintain community education, training, recreational, cultural, and athletic programs and services, outside the regular curricular and extracurricular programs for the pupils. These services would also be available to the community members. This could help the area residents who are out of work, or are looking at changing their careers. The many resources that the school have available, could assist with the computer lab for citizens to take online college courses, certificate courses, computer and technology courses, and hobby or interest courses. The athletic facilities could be opened up for community use, outside the regular activities by the school athletes. The Senior Citizens can always use the school resources, for the Senior Tax Exchange Program (STEP). This is a program that seniors over 62 can work at the school for a property tax credit. The program benefits the seniors and the student, by providing the experience, knowledge, and skills of the citizens to share with the students. The seniors can also benefit from the school Senior Citizen Food Program. Funding these programs would be completed by establishing fees to cover all or part of the costs. A “Operation Levy” could also be proposed and passed in the annual meeting in September.
The School Board re-organized its committees in April. The Staff Negotiating Committee is now Sandra Weix, Bernie Christman and Greg Nelson. Finance Committee is Brooke Glaus, Bernie Christman and Greg Nelson. The Buildings and Grounds Committee is John Crownhart, Gabriel Weix and Paul Peterson. The Policy Committee is Brooke Glaus, Bernie Christman and Sandra Weix. The Board President is Greg Nelson. The Clerk is Sandra Weix. The Treasurer is Bernie Christman. The Vice-President is Paul Peterson. In April the board approved Rene Andraschko as the Middle School Assistant Track Coach.
In May, two resignations were accepted by the board. Dulcee Kurth resigned as the K-12 general music and choir teacher, and Bus Driver John Schwebach also resigned after many years of service. The negotiations committee also approved the “Salary Freeze” for 2011-2012 teacher contracts. The committee further proposed a one-time payment to 26 teachers, with equal payments to each, in the amount of $741.28. This comes to a total of $19,273.21. This is a 1.64% CPI-U Supplemental Compensation amount for performance.

nascar 2012- race 19
Racing at the “Magic Mile”
LOUDON, NEW HAMPSHIRE - The Nationwide Series ran their mid-season race at Loudon, New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday. 200 laps would be run as scheduled. The Pole Sitter # 22 Brad Keselowski set a new track record in his qualifying attempt. 29.067 was enough to put him in the number one spot. # 38 Kasey Kahne would start second. This race was the first of four races, that the drivers would be running for an extra $100,000.00. The “Dash for Cash” will be at the next four races. The top four finishers in each event, go onto the next event after the money. The first race at New Hampshire, had # 3 Austin Dillon, # 2 Elliott Sadler, # 6 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and # 43 Michael Annett going for the cash. Dillon finished ahead of the rest, and took the first hundred-thousand. The next race will have Dillon, Sadler, Stenhouse Jr. and # 12 Sam Hornish Jr. competing for the money. The Loudon track is one of the flattest tracks they race on. The corners only have between two and seven degrees of banking. This is Keselowski’s third straight year of getting the pole position, and # 54 Kyle Busch has had three straight victories at the track. # 23 Austin Dillon had to race without his crew chief Danny Stockman, due to penalties received two weeks in a row. This time, NASCAR suspended the crew chief for two weeks, and fined him $10,000.00. The New Hampshire motto is “Live Free or Die” The National Anthem was sang by Amanda Daly.
The race began with some bad luck for # 54 Kyle Busch. He was having troubles with his fuel pressure cutting out. After falling back right away at the start, he would eventually go to the garage for replacement of the entire fuel system. He did return to the race, twenty plus laps down. His attempt at a fourth consecutive victory ended with the fuel problems. #99 Travis Pastrana also had a rough start to the race, when the cars began a accordion affect at the green flag, and Pastana’s front end was wrinkled up right away. The first caution came out on lap 38 for debris, for debris they said came off the 99 car, after he blew a tire. The second caution on lap 80 was also for Pastrana, when he blew another tire and hit the wall hard. That ended the day for his race.
The third caution was on lap 121, when # 4 Danny Eflund was spun out by # 88 Cole Whitt and # 18 Ryan Truex while they were racing for ninth place on track.. The final caution came out for # 7 Danica Patrick on lap 150, when # 81 Bowles and Patrick got together. Patrick’s car spun out while she was running in the tenth spot. She did recover to finish fourteenth, keeping her in ninth place in the points chase.
On the restart # 33 Kevin Harvick took the lead, and looked like he was going to win easily, when a couple lap cars got in his way. A car 33 laps down got in Harvick’s way and slowed him down a great deal. While this happened # 22 Brad Keselowski was able to storm past him for the victory. This was Harvick’s fifth time, finishing in second place at New Hampshire.
The rest of the top ten were: # 33 Kevin Harvick, # 3 Austin Dillon, # 12 Sam Hornish Jr., # 6 Ricky Stenhouse Jr., # 38 Kasey Kahne, # 2 Elliott Sadler, # 31 Justin Allgaier, # 30 Jamie McMurray and # 18 Ryan Truex.
After the race, # 6 Stenhouse Jr. was getting out of his race car, when the 90 plus degree heat got the best of him, and he passed out. He was transported to the in-field medical center and given an IV. Stenhouse had also been fighting with illness all week. He reported having strep throat. A second driver Kahne seen this happening, and reported that he almost had his knees buckle under him as well.
The next race is at Chicago, next Sunday. The STP 300 will start at 1 PM.
LENOX INDUSTIAL 301
LOUDON, NEW HAMPSHIRE - The Sprint Cup Series also ran at the one mile flat track on Sunday. They would race for 301 laps, for a total distance of 318 miles. Again, the temperatures were in the lower 90’s. The Pole Sitter was # 18 Kyle Busch, with # 5 Kasey Kahne starting beside him. Thirteen year old Emma Joanis sang the National Anthem, as a couple Goshawks from the local air base flew over. Darrell Bates was the Grand Marshal. This would be TNT’s final race for the “Summer Series”.
The day didn’t start out much better for Kyle Busch, when during a green flag pit stop on lap 67, Busch was penalized for speeding on entry to pit road. His pit crew also had troubles with the lug nuts on one tire, making his stop extra long. He had led all the laps up to this stop, and fell back to 23rd after the penalty. The first caution came out on lap 89 for debris in turn three. This was never shown to viewers what it was. The second caution on lap 193 was also for debris that was never shown.
Busch’s troubles would continue on lap 231, when after getting all the way back to second place, he made a pit stop and over-shot his pit box. The caution would then come out for the third time, catching Busch in the pits. He would fall one lap down in nineteenth spot. He finished the race in sixteenth after leading for 72 laps throughout the race. The caution was for # 10 David Reutimann. His engine let go, and dumped some oil on the track. During the final round of pit stops, # 11 Denny Hamlin, who had dominated three quarters of the race, had some complications explaining what he wanted from his crew chief. They changed four tires, when the rest of the field only changed two. # 5 Kasey Kahne took over the lead, and sailed to the finish. Hamlin re-started thirteenth, and finished in second. The rest of the top ten were: # 15 Clint Bowyer, # 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr., # 2 Brad Keselowski, # 24 Jeff Gordon, # 48 Jimmie Johnson, # 29 Kevin Harvick, # 16 Greg Biffle and # 39 Ryan Newman.

GLOBAL RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
LOUDON, NEW HAMPSHIRE - The Global Rally-cross Championship Series then raced after the Cup series race ended at the speedway.
Round one was won by 34 Tanner Foust, with 12 David Blink taking second.
Round two was won by 38 Brian Deegan, with 40 Dave Mirra finishing second. This round had to be re-started due to a crash that happened right away. 26 Andy Scott and 43 Ken Block got together, and Block’s car was wrecked. A red flag stopped the race. Not only was the car wrecked, but the tracks obstacles was also destroyed.
Round three was won by 199 Travis Pastrana, with 77 Samuel Hubinett finishing second. Again the race needed to be re-started after a red flag, when Sabenak jumped the start.
Round four, also known as the (LCQ) Last Chance Qualifier was won by 12 Steve Verdier, with 43 Ken Block, 26 Andy Scott and 33 Liam Doran all qualifying for the final round.
The final Round was as wild as the first four, with Travis Pastrana winning in his Dodge Dart over-all. Hubineett would be second, Deegan third, Foust was fourth and Block finished in fifth. Scott, Doran, Binks, Verdier and Mirra rounded out the ten racers.
If you haven’t seen these type of races, you really need to watch them at least once. They are small (mostly) foreign cars, that race with several obstacles in their way. I have only watched few, but have become a fan quickly, as these guys are jumping across ramps, sliding around corners in sand and racing across water. It is far from your average race with the stock cars.

The next race is in two weeks on July 29 at Indianapolis.

Elmwood Librarian Termintion - additional information
Elmwood Librarian Terminated
Submitted by Rick A. Talford
Citizen Journalist
ELMWOOD, WI - June 11, 2012 the Elmwood Library Board Terminated the job, held by Jayne Garaets (Library Director) for several reasons. An Audit was requested by the Elmwood Village Board last fall that led to the current situation with the town library.
In a report done by Chuck Rupnow, of the Eau Claire Leader Telegram on June 20, 2012, it was reported that several charges are the reason for the termination.
After the Library Board terminated her, Geraets provided a handwritten note indicating she was resigning immediately. This was not accepted, due to she was officially terminated by the Board previously. Library Board President Weix was concerned the village, by accepting it, might put itself in financial jeopardy, given a past instance in which former village clerk Jodi Pulk resigned and later received unemployment compensation after claiming she was forced to resign. "We just want to make sure we're doing the right thing and doing it in such a way that it doesn't cost the village money again," Weix said.
Geraets, 52, who had been employed by the village since December 1999, could not be reached for comment Tuesday. In 2011 she received a combined $36,193 in salary and money in lieu of health insurance.
The allegations/charges against Garaets are as follows:
Falsifying circulation records to DPI and both Dunn and Pierce Counties from 2002 to 2011. Submitting false employee wage totals to DPI. Directing library employees to falsify reports, with fear that they could lose their jobs if they did not follow directives. Engaging in inappropriate, insubordinate, and /or demoralizing behavior. This included name calling and swearing at village personnel. Failure to catalog books removed from the library. The library bank deposits did not match the register receipts. Failure to protect the patrons privacy. Forgery of the library presidents signature on documents. Creating a hostile work environment for employees at the library. This caused employees that worked for 14 years to resign.
Employee Deb Helmer in her resignation notice, claimed "irreconcilable differences" with Geraets and the board, adding that she had "no recourse" but to resign. In reports to the board, claimed “Geraets was not at work during times she indicated on time sheets and even turned the clock ahead once to leave early.” They also said “They tried earlier to tell village officials about the problems, but Everyone turned a deaf ear and we were ignored." In a response from Library President Weix, he stated “"I'm not convinced of any criminal attempt here," Weix said. "There is no evidence we could find in any way that she profited from it in any way.” The Elmwood Village Clerk Amy Wayne said Tuesday, that questions for Geraets arose last fall when she was examining departments' records. Wayne said she was "getting the runaround" from Geraets when asking about library and library board issues. "She told me not to talk with the board members because I would upset them," Wayne said. "That was kind of a red flag for me.”
The Audit that led to these actions, was started last fall by the Elmwood Village Board, and in my opinion (Rick Talford) , this was the result that was being looked for. I was aware that the Audit was definitely after something, but was told that it was simply being done to help the village clerk understand her job better. These are very similar actions as to those that led to the terminating of the past Chief of Police Adam Meyers, and the Past Village Clerk Jodi Pulk. It seems that every couple years, someone gets targeted for the Village to terminate. Unfortunately for the people of Elmwood, this has become a regularity by the Village Board. We will only be able to watch and see who is next.
There was plenty of allegations against the village clerk, who in her resignation that was forced by the Village Board, wrote that she was resigning due to stress on the job by the Ex-Chief and my family. This was absolutely false, as the Ex-Chief and my family had no communications with her for over two and a half years prior to her resignation. It is again my opinion that members of the board forced the resignation to be done their way, or the person would have their reputation destroyed all together. Again, this is my opinion, but this was backed by the Clerks own statements to the Leader Telegram some years ago.
Hopefully things will get better for this small village, as its reputation continues to get hard hits, by the actions being taken by the board. There is plenty of debate on both sides of these incidents.
In reading what Weix had stated about no evidence of criminal behavior, I would disagree. If the Librarian was forging signatures, that would be a criminal charge, as well as the falsifying her timesheet. She would be receiving money fraudulently for hours she did not work. I would belive that both these issues would very much be a matter of criminal behavior, especially when she could and would be profitting from the behavior.

ELMWOOD, WI - The Elmwood Village Board met on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Village Auditorium. The results of the June 5, 2012 Election, left Governor Scott Walker still in his seat with 168 votes. Tom Barrett received 155 from the Elmwood voters. LT. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch received 158 votes and Mahlon Mitchell was very close behind with 157. Voter turnout was at sixty-seven percent, with 327 voters out of 483 possible.
In Public Input, resident Marty Reinier spoke to the board, and thanked everyone for a huge success with the dedication of Veteran’s Park. He also told the board that a family wanted to provide a donation of a picnic shelter (20x32) and a fire pit, to do public flag disposal in the park. The board will send this forward to the public works committee for discussion.
In other news, the Public Works Director Jamie Reitz provided information on the (CMAR) Compliance Maintenance Annual Report. He stated “There are no deficiencies” The Winter Avenue paving project was back on the agenda this month, and the paving was approved for Winter Ave,. from Clark Street to Spruce Street. The cost will be near $35,000, with $15,694 being reimbursed from the LRIP Funds.
There were a number of Operator’s Licenses approved this month. Merlin Caldwell and Mary Kirkevold at the Longbranch. Mike Burke, Halee Engeldinger and Nikole Awsumb at Tiffany’s Tavern. The Operator’s Licenses for the upcoming UFO Days were also approved. The board approved the lifting of the open container ordinance for UFO Days as well. It has also been noted that there will not be any fireworks this year at the end of UFO Days. The Combination Class B Liquor/Beverage Licenses for Longbranch, Tiffany’s, Sandbar and Cenex were all approved, with Cenex getting a new Class A Liquor License.
A brief discussion over the library situation was held, with it being acknowledged that the checking account was closed, as requested by the board. As reported in recent papers, Librarian Jayne Garaets has been terminated, as of June 11, 2012 from the Elmwood Library. The termination was rescinded and then re-instated a week later. Both aides, Deb Helmer and Linda Webber resigned the end of May. Helmer and Webber were employed at the library for fourteen years. There are numerous allegations for the termination. Falsifying documents, including timesheets and forging the library board presidents signature are among the list of allegations at this time. In communications with the Library Board President Sandra Weix, I was contacted by email with the following information: “Four months ago concerns about certain library practices at the Elmwood Library were brought to the attention of the library board by the Elmwood village council. We have subsequently made an extensive evaluation of our library's management which culminated in a hearing on those matters on June 19, 2012. Evidence and testimony presented at that hearing lead to the finding that there was a pattern of management practices that the board found unacceptable and the board found it necessary to dismiss Jayne Geraets, the librarian, in order to move forward. We have been fortunate to secure the services of Christy Rundquist, the Pepin librarian, to serve as our interim director while we conduct a search for a new director. Library hours and activities such as story hour will continue with very little disruption during this interim. Qualified persons interested in applying for the position of library director can find further information on the library web site www.elmwoodlibrary.org”
In Committee and Board Reports, the information from the library was provided by Trustee Trisha Knops. She spoke of the two aides resignations, and the need to hire one library aide in the near future. Knops also told the board there would be a nursing home committee meeting on June 12. Trustee Mike Sand told the board that the public works committee met with Ron Webb, Director of Soil Conservation. They discussed the water problems they are having at Butternut Park. Trustee Brian Buck then spoke to the board. The police committee met in a Closed Session meeting prior to the board meeting, to discuss “Performance Issues” with Elmwood Officer Matt Broehm. I did reach Trustee Brian Buck from the Elmwood Village Board (Police Committee Chair) As to the issue with officer Broehm, I received the following email: “All of the information is public record and can be viewed by our residents at any time. At first we moved to suspend him for a week but needed to rescind that motion because he was not on a probationary status first. That was my error and we fixed it promptly. We discussed him needing to improve with his dedication to the village and making sure he is at scheduled events when he is needed. We discussed the concerns about the police vehicle leaving the village limits without request from county officials. We also discussed him complying with our motion to have him work at least one night per weekend. He was given an evaluation and an improvement plan. He was put on probation for 90 days”. There were no reports for the following committees: Parks / Buildings and Personnel / Finance.
The meeting adjourned at 7:38 PM.
